U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts agreed to release Tina Stone 44, of Clayton; her stepson, David Stone Jr., 19, of Adrian, and Jacob Ward, 33, of Huron, Ohio. They all were released to their parents and will be monitored via electronic tethers while facing dozens of other restrictions, like curfews and no possession of weapons.

What a bunch of bullshit! Released to their parents and given curfews while being charged with sedition? Are you fucking kidding me?

Now imagine the whole group is brown instead of white. They’d all be left indefinitely in jail until trial, assuming they’d even get a trial.

Christian right leader George Rekers takes vacation with “rent boy”

On April 13, the “rent boy” (whom we’ll call Lucien) arrived at Miami International Airport on Iberian Airlines Flight 6123, after a ten-day, fully subsidized trip to Europe. He was soon followed out of customs by an old man with an atavistic mustache and a desperate blond comb-over, pushing an overburdened baggage cart.

That man was George Alan Rekers, of North Miami — the callboy’s client and, as it happens, one of America’s most prominent anti-gay activists. Rekers, a Baptist minister who is a leading scholar for the Christian right, left the terminal with his gay escort, looking a bit discomfited when a picture of the two was snapped with a hot-pink digital camera.

This story is getting old. Prominent anti-gay preacher caught with male prostitute. His defense?

“I had surgery,” Rekers said, “and I can’t lift luggage. That’s why I hired him.”

Uh huh. Sure.

Republicans warn against Miranda rights for terror suspect

GASP…. an American citizen being read his Miranda rights? Say it ain’t so!! (Note to GOP – Don’t yell at me about the rule of law then say stupid shit like this)

Congressional Republicans want to know whether the Pakistani-born American arrested in the Times Square car bombing plot was read his Miranda rights, with Sen. John McCain saying it would be a “serious mistake” if the suspect was reminded of his right to remain silent.

“Obviously that would be a serious mistake until all the information is gathered,” McCain (R-Ariz.) said on “Imus in the Morning” when asked whether the suspect, Faisal Shahzad, should have been Mirandized.

Oil hits Louisiana coast, could reach Florida by Sunday

Couldn’t have said it better myself….

Imagine that hundreds of black protesters were to descend upon Washington DC and Northern Virginia, just a few miles from the Capitol and White House, armed with AK-47s, assorted handguns, and ammunition. And imagine that some of these protesters —the black protesters — spoke of the need for political revolution, and possibly even armed conflict in the event that laws they didn’t like were enforced by the government? Would these protester — these black protesters with guns — be seen as brave defenders of the Second Amendment, or would they be viewed by most whites as a danger to the republic? What if they were Arab-Americans? Because, after all, that’s what happened recently when white gun enthusiasts descended upon the nation’s capital, arms in hand, and verbally announced their readiness to make war on the country’s political leaders if the need arose.

Ariz. governor signs immigration bill into law

Silly me. I thought immigration was the responsibility of the Feds. This can’t end well……

The sweeping legislation makes it a crime under state law to be in the country illegally. It also requires local police officers to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegally.

A Phoenix Law Enforcement Association representative acknowledged that racial profiling can occur but said fears associated with the bill are unfounded.

“We’re not targeting any particular group,” said Levi Bolton, a retired police detective. “Cops are not here to do these things to you.”
